Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of an octagon divided by a chevron shaped partition line silver and scarlet, on the upper silver area three scarlet fleurs-de-lis, in the center one issuing from the peak of the partition line, on the lower scarlet area issuing from base a silver winged sword; all above a silver scroll inscribed EVER READY ABLE in black letters.

Symbolism
The three fleurs-de-lis stand for the Groups three World War II campaigns in Europe.  The chevron shape of the partition line, representing the rafters of a roof, refers to the units construction function.  The colors scarlet and white, which is synonymous with silver in heraldry, stand for both the Corps of Engineers and the action for which the Group was awarded the scarlet Meritorious Unit Streamer inscribed European Theater in white letters.  The winged sword, simulating the former shoulder sleeve insignia for SCARWAF refers to the units special assignment with the Air Force during 1955 and 1956.  The sword also resembles the number 1, which with the three fleurs-de-lis and the eight sides of the octagon refers to the Groups numerical designation.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 10 July 1968.
